The Eagle River Broncos take the field at Chugiak High School, as the upcoming Alaska Football League season nears

"It's another beautiful day out, second week in a row we've been able to practice outdoors, so, it's a blessing," said head coach Zack Easterwood.

This practice is also the team's first since the murder of a teammate. Sosaia Finau, 21, died in a hail of gunfire Thursday morning at a Mountain View apartment complex where his girlfriend lived.

Anchorage Police say her ex-boyfriend and another man shot Finau outside the apartment before they escaped.

"Sosaia was part of the family, I mean, he was down for everybody. We actually have a couple of his family members on the team," Easterwood said.

Those players did not want to talk about their loved one. However, their coach did.

"He was just that guy, I swear to you on my life, he was the guy that would make you smile as soon as he's walking up. He's always hype, doing it for the guy next to him," said Easterwood.

"Every time we step on the field, we remember Sy," said Finau's football family in a huddle as they honor one of their own, a teammate who was needlessly taken from them.
