Suspect sought in church flashing
Anchorage Police are asking for the public's help to identify a man who reportedly flashed his genitals to a woman inside a church and was later spotted inside a women's restroom at the 5th Avenue Mall over the weekend.
Sunday morning police were called after a woman reported she had been a victim of indecent exposure at the Holy Family Cathedral located at 800 West 5th Avenue, according to a statement from APD. The victim said before mass, she went into a small prayer room where she knelt down to pray but felt like someone was behind her. She said she thought it was her husband until she smelled a "foul odor."
"The victim turned around to find the suspect standing with his pants and underwear pulled down below his knees with his genitals exposed," police wrote.
The woman said it looked like the suspect may have been holding a weapon but he took off before she could identify what was in his right hand. She was left unharmed, according to police.
On the same day, police were alerted of a prowler in the women's bathroom at the 5th Avenue Mall.
"There is currently a video circulating on Facebook that was reportedly taken of a male suspect in a restroom at the 5th Avenue Mall who was in one bathroom stall while looking over the wall into another stall," said in the statement.
The suspect is described as a black male in his early 30s. He's approximately 5-foot-7 and possibly homeless, according to police.
Anyone who either knows the identity of the suspect, witnessed either incident or may be a victim is asked to contact police dispatch by dialing 311 (option #1).
