Alaska Huts helps you explore Alaska's back country
Alaska Huts is an organization looking to add Alaska's backcountry to your summer adventure. Erin Kirkland, executive director of Alaska Huts, joined KTVA's Daybreak to discuss the program and how it could enhance your summer excursion.
"We're a non profit organization that is dedicated to promoting the idea of hiking or skiing hut to hut," Said Erin, "It's very popular on the east coast, extremely popular in Europe, alpine areas, and so we are interested in creating the same sort of system here in Alaska".
Alaska Hut's Manitoba cabin is located off of mile 48 on the Seward Highway and also has two adjacent yurts.
A fundraiser supporting Alaska Huts' effort to expand their organization is taking place this week.
A Flannel Affair to Benefit Alaska Huts will happen Thursday, April 12, from 6:30 - 11 p.m. at 49th State Brewing Company; tickets are $15.
