Crews will be conducting utility work this weekend, forcing the closure of the southbound lanes of Boniface Parkway.

The roadway will be closed north of Debarr Road beginning at 7 p.m. Friday. The lane closure is expected to be lifted 5 a.m. Monday.

Wednesday, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities said one of their maintenance foremen noticed the pavement near the intersection didn't look right. Turns out, there was a sinkhole. Crews made temporary repairs and further fixes will be made this weekend.

ADOTPF says the work includes replacing a deteriorated pipe about a foot below the pavement.

Detours will be in place, the DOT says.
