Body found, man missing from boat overturned north of Sitka
SITKA, Alaska (AP) - The body of a Sitka man has been recovered from a beach west of Peril Strait, as a second man remains missing.
Alaska State Troopers said April 8 that efforts to find the missing man, 45-year-old Sitka resident Sean Poffenbarger, had been suspended.
"Several other attempts on previous days to get divers in the water were also unsuccessful," troopers wrote. "Next of kin has been notified. Active search efforts are concluded at this time."
Alaska State Troopers say the body of 49-year-old Sean Elliot was found on a beach in Goose Cove.
Searchers also found a boat overturned in the water but a second man reportedly on board is missing.
Troopers shortly before 8:30 a.m. on April 1 received notification that an emergency signal had been activated in Peril Strait north of Baranof Island.
Troopers notified the Coast Guard, which responded with Sitka and volunteer emergency officials.
