Whitehorse musher Marcelle Fressineau (Bib #35) reportedly had an evening run-in with a few wood bison between Rohn and Nikolai.

According to Fressineau, the bison were standing in the middle of the trail. They startled her dog team, which turned around and quickly became tangled up.

The 63-year-old, originally from Switzerland, grabbed her ax -- a required piece of gear every Iditarod musher must carry -- and shouted at the bison until they sauntered off.

This is Fressineau's third Iditarod race. She currently operates an adventure outfitter business in Whitehorse and has been mushing since 1988.

We caught up with her at Takotna to hear the full story.
