Paul Nickles and Christina Mittermeier have been named 'Adventurers of the Year' by National Geographic-- and with good reason.

"Art, science and conservation-- it's gotta be beautiful, it's gotta teach you something and it's gotta make you care," says Nickles on the couple's photographic efforts.

They achieved a good amount of attention after they released a video of a starving polar bear, using it to promote global warming.

Christina's strength is in people. She has photographed indigenous people from all over the globe.

Their work has sent them across the world, but they say it's not always easy.

As Paul puts it, "It's failing 98 percent of the time, being miserable most of the time, and being patient, believing in yourself, believing in the process and chasing that story."
