Alaska State Troopers say a Fairbanks man died and two other people were injured Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision on the Parks Highway.

A report of the Mile 329 crash which killed 46-year-old Shawn Masterson was received by Fairbanks troopers just after 4:30 p.m., according to an online dispatch.

“[Masterson] was traveling northbound on the Parks Highway in a 2002 Ford Explorer when he lost control of the vehicle and crossed into the opposing lane of travel,” troopers wrote. “Masterson's vehicle was struck by a southbound Dodge Ram 3500 driven by Thomas Monicken, age 52, of Fairbanks.”

Medics pronounced Masterson dead at the scene, and took a child in his Explorer to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Monicken suffered only minor injuries in the collision.

The crash remains under investigation.
