Police have identified the Anchorage woman fatally stabbed Wednesday night at a Turnagain four-plex, after the suspect allegedly picked her up in Spenard to have sex for money.

Cheri Ingram, 42, was the woman who died at an apartment on the 3000 block of Wisconsin Street, police spokesman MJ Thim said Friday. Simon Weyiouanna, 27, was detained by neighbors soon after the stabbing, after he reportedly tried to remove her body from his apartment in a sheet.

Police say Weyiouanna admitted to the crime, calling Ingram a “prostitute” he had picked up at a nearby gas station before stabbing her during sex.

Police are not describing Ingram as a sex worker, and didn’t have word on whether Ingram had previously offered sexual services.

“That’s part of the investigation,” Thim said.

Police said on Thursday that it didn’t appear Weyiouanna had previously tried to kill any other women in similar fashion. His murder charges Thursday were his first criminal offense, according to court records.
