Palmer, Wasilla schools closed due to freezing rain, snow
Some schools across the Mat-Su Valley are closed Monday due to poor road conditions caused by overnight freezing rain and snow.
All Palmer and Wasilla area schools are closed except for the following: Glacier View Elementary, Willow Elementary, Beryozova, Trapper-Creek Elementary, Talkeetna Elementary and Su-Valley Junior-Senior High School.
KTVA Meteorologist Melissa Frey says a combination of snow and freezing rain moved across Anchorage and the Mat-Su overnight; additional snowfall is likely this afternoon.
Temperatures in the Mat-Su and Anchorage remain below freezing. Be prepared for an additional 2-6" of snow in Anchorage with the highest totals on the east side of town. The Matanuska Valley will see another 4-8" of snow with more near Hatcher Pass. A winter weather advisory is in effect for Anchorage until 6 p.m. and until 9 p.m. in the Matanuska Valley.
