Fur Rendezvous 2018 kicks off on Friday, Feb. 23. As the community eagerly awaits the start of the festivities, the mood at Rondy headquarters was clear.

"Pandemonium, but joy with the snow coming down," said Janet Clark, Open World Championship Sled Dog Race Marshall.

She and the Rendezvous' Executive Director John McCleary joined Daybreak Thursday to talk about the new events coming up.

"This year, we have a few new events, targeted more towards the younger generation," said John.

There's an event for Toddlers five and under, cheekily called the "Minors and Nappers" at the Anchorage Museum. At the Glacier Brewhouse, there will be a root beer chugging contest, sponsored by Tastee Freez.

Another new event this year, a multicultural gathering and a winter carnival dance.

Of course, many old favorites are returning to the event this year. Fans of Running with the Reindeer and the Minors and Trappers Ball will have those events returning to look forward to.
