The 2018 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race kicks off March 3 with the Ceremonial Start in downtown Anchorage.

This year, mushers will take the traditional Southern Route -- normally used on odd years. (Seen in orange on the map above.)

Lack of snow has caused the race to use an altered Northern Route in recent years.

The 2018 and 2019 Iditarod races will also take the Southern Route, pending adequate snowfall.
