A 25-year-old man was caught in the act of burglarizing a home while a woman and her child were home, according to Anchorage Police.

APD spokesperson MJ Thim says Ryan Austin was arrested Monday morning and charged with first-degree burglary and criminal mischief.

Thim says Austin drove a green 2006 Chevy Silverado into a garage in the 16000 block of Olena Pointe Circle around 7:15 Monday morning. Austin entered the home through the garage, Thim says, and began to burglarize it.

A woman and her juvenile son were home and heard the crash. The woman called 911 and herself and her son inside a room in the home.

Meanwhile, APD officer surrounded the home, secured the area and entered the house where they found Austin in the basement actively burglarizing the home, Thim says.

Thim says investigators determined that Austin was the same suspect who was reported as peering into windows in the same neighborhood over the weekend.

The woman and her son were not injured.
