Anchorage Police officers followed footprints to make an arrest in a Tuesday morning armed robbery.

Around 10:20 Tuesday morning, APD was notified of an armed robbery at the Taco Bell in the 2600 block of East Tudor Road.

MJ Thim, APD spokesperson, says the suspect entered the business wearing a black hoodie and had a black towel covering his face; he stated he was carrying a weapon, demanded money and then fled the scene on foot.

While officers were on scene investigating, they were made aware of a suspicious person who was taking off their outerwear and burying it in the snow in the area of Wright Street and Kimberlie Court.

When officers arrived, the man was gone, but clothing matching the description of that in the armed robbery was found buried in the snow.

Officers followed the footsteps to the area of Piper Street and Providence Drive and found a man who was not dressed for the snowy weather.

Gerald Spies, 34, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree robbery.

University of Anchorage Police assisted in the investigation.
