1 dead, 1 injured in separate Anchorage shootings Sunday
Two separate shootings that happened on opposite ends of town, left one man dead and one woman injured Sunday night, Anchorage Police say.
According to APD spokesman MJ Thim, a call reporting shots fired came in at about 8:15 p.m.; police found an adult male dead in a home at the Penguin Trailer Court, off Spenard Road near 36th Avenue. Thim said the victim was shot in the upper body.
Witnesses told police dispatchers that “they heard multiple shots and multiple people running in different directions,” Thim said.
Responding officers and K-9 units initially formed a loose perimeter, Thim said, then began to question people at the scene about what happened. No suspect information was immediately available.
APD has no suspect information to release at this time. Police believe the victim knew whoever shot him; was drug-related, Thim said.
Police sent out an alert at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday warning of a heavy APD presence in an area bounded by Benson Boulevard and Tudor Road, as well as Minnesota Drive and Arctic Boulevard.
Just after 10 p.m., police also responded to a call of shots fired on the 5900 block of 6th Avenue. Police found several shell casings, but no victims, Thim said. However, 45 minutes later, an adult female arrived at one of the local hospitals with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the upper body.
"Officers have determined she was inside the residence at the time the shots were fired and was struck," Thim said.
Anyone who may have information on any of these incidents, including surveillance video is asked to call Police Dispatch at (907) 786-8900. To stay anonymous call Crime Stoppers at (907) 561-STOP.
