More than 20 vehicles were involved in a pileup in Fairbanks Tuesday afternoon, leaving the westbound lanes of the Johansen Expressway closed, according to the Fairbanks News-Miner.

The highway was closed between Peger Road and University Avenue following the chain-reaction crash around 2:45. Alaska State Troopers say there were 23 vehicles involved.

Troopers say only minor injuries were reported.

A city bus was brought in to keep those involved in the collision warm while troopers conducted interviews.

Slick roads were the result of a "series of rain and snow storms" over the last week in Fairbanks, the News-Miner reports. Troopers said it was -15 degrees with winter driving conditions at the time of the pileup.

The westbound lanes reopened to traffic around 6 p.m.

Troopers are still investigating the cause of the pileup.
