Two people died Saturday morning after their snowmachine struck a moose near the Kuskokwim River village of Aniak, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Tim DeSpain, a troopers spokesman, said the collision near Aniak’s airport was reported to troopers at about 7 a.m. Saturday.

“It sounds like they were traveling on the road, and a moose got in front of them and they collided with it,” DeSpain said.

According to trooper's online dispatch, the bodies of Charles Lang Jr., 28, and Kayden Morgan, 16, of Aniak were found near the basketball courts off of Airport Boulevard in Aniak. The moose was also found dead near the crash site in a woodline area.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor, authorities say.
