Anchorage police say a child is dead after two vehicles crashed at the intersection of O'Malley Road and Lake Otis Parkway Tuesday night.

APD spokesperson Renee Oistad said the wreck occurred just before 8:30 p.m. when a sedan with three people in it were traveling on O’Malley, with a green light at the intersection, when it collided with an SUV that was turning from O’Malley onto Lake Otis.

"According to witness statements and evidence obtained at the scene, initial indications are that a Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound on O’Malley and made a left turn to go north on Lake Otis on a yellow flashing light," Oistad wrote. "A Honda Accord was traveling westbound on O’Malley, and was going straight through the intersection on a green ball when the two vehicles collided."

Officers at the scene said that all three people in the sedan were injured, one of them critically. The driver of the SUV also was injured.

Wednesday morning police confirmed the person in critical condition was a 7-year-old child who died shortly before 7 a.m.

Identities are not being released at this time. No citations or charges have been issued.

The investigation is ongoing.
