Man shot, wounded confronting Eagle River prowling suspect
A man who confronted a suspected prowler in Eagle River early Thursday was shot and wounded by a second person, with both suspects still at large.
Officers responded at about 3:30 a.m. to the 11000 block of Regency Drive for reports of the shooting, according to a statement from police spokesman MJ Thim.
“The preliminary investigation found an adult male resident confronted a suspected prowler outside his residence and was shot in the upper body by a male sitting in a parked vehicle nearby,” Thim wrote. “The suspected prowler fled on foot and the shooter fled in the vehicle.”
The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Thim said he had heard noises outside, then stepped outdoors to investigate unarmed.
The person confronted by the victim is believed to be a white man, standing about 6 feet tall, wearing a gray hoodie and jeans. The shooter was the sole occupant of a “red compact vehicle,” Thim said, with no further description of either immediately available.
“We believe that they were in the area tampering with vehicles,” Thim said. “If anybody has found their vehicle tampered with in the area, they need to file a police report and give us a call.”
Investigators are also looking for surveillance video from the area, and are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact police dispatchers at 907-786-8900. Anchorage Crime Stoppers can also take information on the case at 907-561-STOP or through its website.
