It was a banner day for a pair of locals at the U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships at Kincaid Park. Held under snowy skies (a welcome sight) South High School made it a sweep as Scott Patterson also of APU and his sister Caitlin both posted victories on day one.

Scott took home the men's 15km freestyle by nearly a minute. Caitlin also found the podium with an almost 20 second gap between her and second place.

Meantime, locals filled the finisher's sheet. Gus Schumacher, a member of Alaska's Winter Stars ended sixth. And Scott had plenty of company from his female APU teammates. Chelsea Holmes was third, Rosie Frankowski fourth, Becca Rorabaugh ninth and Hannah Halvorsen 12th.

Skiers return to the trail on Friday.
