Alaska State Troopers have charged a Wasilla man in connection with a New Year's Day murder.

Just before 5 a.m. Monday, troopers and emergency medical personnel were called to a Big Lake residence on reports of CPR in progress on a 37-year-old woman.

An autopsy was conducted on the deceased, now identified as Amy Smith, of Wasilla, which indicated her cause of death is by homicide.

Around 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, troopers arrested 38-year-old Anthony Smith, of Wasilla, for first-degree murder.

Smith is held in the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility without bail.

No further details were immediately made available.
