Man who killed himself in Christmas Day standoff ID'd by police
A man involved in an overnight standoff with Anchorage SWAT was found dead in his yard from a self-inflicted gunshot wound early Tuesday morning.
Officers responded to a call in the area of 5600 Kennyhill Dr. at around 11 p.m. Monday where a man and woman had been fighting at the residence, according to Anchorage Police Department spokesperson MJ Thim.
"The adult male was making suicidal threats with a gun," APD wrote in a Tuesday morning release. "The adult female was assaulted and exited the residence safely."
The man, who was armed, refused to leave the home following multiple requests from officers on scene.
He has been identified by police as 49-year-old Daniel Fleener.
SWAT arrived and deployed gas around 2:30 a.m. When they searched the home, the suspect was found dead in the back yard with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
No evacuations were issued for the area and no other injuries were reported.
Thim said Fleener had felony warrants. His next of kin have been notified of his death.
