Maddy Millar sets example for teammates
East High senior Madison Millar loves hockey and excels as a team leader on the ice. That's just one reason Millar is the KTVA Sports Scholar Athlete of the Week. She's able to maintain a 3.8 grade point average while playing comp and high school hockey.
"I have AP classes. So I balance AP and then going on hockey trips and coming back... having to go in for lunch and doing studies there and after school," said Millar. "It's hard, just have to get it done."
She knows what's at stake, as she's verbally committed to join fellow Alaskan Ally Hull at Concordia University in Wisconsin to play hockey. It will be a dream come true for Millar, whose loved the sport of hockey since her father introduced it to her at a very young age.
"I used to go watch my Dad all the time at the rink. I was like omigosh, I need to play hockey."
Whether playing comp hockey, serving as captain for the Service-East team, or hitting the books, Madison Millar works hard and relishes setting a good example for teammates and friends.
