A man who spotted his friend's stolen SUV at a grocery store Saturday night; chased after it, only to see it crash right in front of him.

Anchorage Police say they got a call just before 7:30 about the occupied stolen car. The friend of the vehicle's owner said he first spotted the green GMC Yukon at the Carrs Safeway on Gambell Street. He says he tracked it to Denali Street, where it crashed into a fence between East 11th and 12th Avenues. He said three people then got out of the car and ran away.

APD responded and used a K-9 unit to look for the driver of the stolen the car.

"I hope they get these people, there's been a lot of car theft going on in town and the lady I talked to this morning said they like Yukons and Silverados, they're at the police station. So I guess I should say it's already been stolen twice, there's nothing left in its tow," said vehicle owner don nelson.

APD says they're unaware of any arrests in connection with the case.
