Nyeniea John is a junior at West Anchorage High School, carefully balancing school and athletics.

"I wake up, go to morning practices, go to school, go to after school practices, then go home to do homework," John said. "So it's literally, my whole day is basketball and school".

This week's KTVA Sports Scholar Athlete of the Week maintains a 3.6 grade point average. When John is not in the gym or in the classroom, you can find her donating time to Special Olympics Alaska.

A talented competitor, John helped lead the West flag football team to an undefeated regular season, only dropping the championship game to Dimond in 2017. Now the focus is on basketball, as the Lady Eagles set their eyes on the ASAA 4A state tournament.

As for her future? Nyeniea John's future is bright and she has plenty of time to figure it out. When asked about college plans, John said, "I would mostly go to be a personal trainer or physical trainer in the sports area". Continuing, "I like looking at the West coast mainly, any D-1 school on the West coast. The East coast is really nice too".

Whatever coast she chooses, West basketball fans have two more full seasons of catching John in action in their gym.
