A man died Wednesday morning near Bean’s Cafe in Anchorage, according to police.

Dispatchers received word just before 10 a.m. that someone passing by had found a body on the south side of Bean’s along 3rd Avenue adjacent to the Brother Francis Shelter, APD spokeswoman Renee Oistad said.

“It was not in a building,” Oistad said.

Officers at the scene, along with members of the state medical examiner's office, declined to answer questions about what happened.

The man’s death is under investigation, but Oistad said the matter isn’t considered suspicious by police. She said nothing further would be released until the completion of an autopsy.

Bean’s executive director Lisa Sauder referred questions on the death to APD, citing its investigation.
