Tuesday evening, Representative Dean Westlake (D-Kiana) said in a statement that he would not be resigning his post amid allegations of sexual misconduct.

KTVA's Liz Raines broke the story about allegations of misconduct from a former legislative staffer. The woman alleges that Westlake groped her and made an unwelcome sexual advance toward her earlier this year.

In the days that followed, political leaders called for Rep. Westlake to resign after new reports of sexual misconduct from multiple women.

More than a week after the initial report of sexual misconduct, Westlake, who is recovering from heart surgery, released a statement, saying he decided he wouldn't be resigning.

"I am imperfect, and I know I have disappointed many people who trusted me to represent them," he said in the statement.

"I am proud to represent House District 40, which is not a Republican or Democrat district- it is an Alaskan district. I will continue to work on behalf of the people of my district and of Alaska more broadly."
