The Anchorage School District has implemented a new program in some Anchorage middle schools that teaches social and emotional learning to children, helping them to become more socially conscious.

They are learning life skills like self-discipline, responsibility, conflict resolution and getting along with others in general. The program has a strong emphasis on connection to the school, and drug and alcohol awareness.

The program is being funded by a $100,000 grant from the Lion's Club, who believe that children who take these values to heart are generally happier, and are more likely to avoid drugs and alcohol down the road.

The 'Lions Quest' program is set to expand to 2,100 more students at Birch, Romig and Wendler Middle School.
