Anchorage Police say a man is in custody after he was caught inside a woman's car with a knife in his hand.

APD spokesperson Renee Oistad says 30-year-old Emmanuel R. Adams was arrested Saturday afternoon after a caller reported that there was a man sitting in a woman's Nissan Sedan on the 1000 block of East 8th Avenue.

"When the vehicle owner confronted Adams, he shoved the woman with both of his hands and then took off running from the scene," Oistad said.

When a sergeant responded to the area, Adams was seen with a knife in his hand, walking down Karluk Street at 6th Avenue. Adams dropped the knife after he was commanded, but ran from the scene. Another officer spotted Adams running through Lions Park and ordered him to stop. He complied and was taken into custody without further incident.

"Officers could smell alcohol on Adams’ person and an opened bottle of whiskey fell to the ground from his jacket," Oistad said.

Adams was charged with robbery, theft assault, resisting arrest and vehicle tampering.

Police confirm the woman was not hurt during the incident.
