AST: Efforts underway to recover body of missing St. George man
Alaska State Troopers say they're working to recover the remains of a St. George man who has been missing since Wednesday.
On November 30 at 9 a.m., troopers received a report that 25-year-old Serge Lekanof of St. George was missing. According to trooper's online dispatch, Lekanof was last seen around 3 a.m. on Wednesday and had reportedly been drinking prior to walking away from his home.
Troopers say on Friday, someone reported finding a human body found at the bottom of a "sheer rocky cliff." Community members identified the body as Lekanof. However, due to rough waters and rocks frequently falling from the cliff, the body could not be reached safely.
Saturday morning, troopers went out at low tide to recover the body, but it was no longer there, the online dispatch wrote. Monday morning Lekanof's body was reportedly seen again at the bottom of the cliff.
Troopers say efforts are underway to recover his remains.
