The parents of Joe "Grant" Orand are asking for the public’s help to find their son, who has been missing since Sunday.

Orand’s family says the 53-year-old was admitted to Providence Alaska Medical Center last Saturday because he was having a bipolar episode.

He was released on Sunday, but didn’t have a key to his home.

Family members say a cab driver was taking Orand back to the hospital when he jumped from the vehicle at the intersection of Tudor Road and Checkmate Drive, east of the Alaska Native Medical Center. Orand was last seen Sunday afternoon at about 4 p.m.

Orand stands 5 feet, 10 inches tall and has gray hair and hazel eyes; he weighs 128 pounds, with family saying he has lost weight since his diagnosis. He was wearing all black.

His parents say they have filed a report with Anchorage police.
