The University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves men followed up a title win by the women's team with a stirring victory of their own in the night session of the GCI Great Alaska Shootout on Thursday.

Hours after the ladies toppled Division I Tulsa to claim the women's Shootout title, the men showed grit and determination as well -- forcing overtime, then dominating the extra frame to stun another Division I school by defeating Santa Clara 78-73 at Alaska Airlines Center.

Pacific transfer Maleke Haynes poured in 22 points and thrilled the crowd with a desperation three-point shot giving the Seawolves (4-3) a chance as regulation time expired. He finished with 22 points.

The Broncos fell to 1-4 and will face Sam Houston State on Saturday to determine 7th and 8th place. UAA draws College of Charleston, also on Saturday, in the 4th place game; their tip time is 2:30 p.m.

It was a remarkable turnaround for the Seawolves from the previous 24 hours after they were completely dominated by 20 points by tournament top seed Cal State Bakersfield.

On Thanksgiving night however, they exhibited a short memory and resilience which could pay huge dividends as their season progresses.
