Hang five: UAA heads to NCAA for a fifth-straight year
The second season begins.
UAA's volleyball team is grateful for it, too. After a weekend of nervous waiting, the Seawolves (19-10) received the news they'd been selected as part of the 64-team field for the Division II NCAA Volleyball Tournament.
They didn't make it easy for themselves. On Thursday, they lost their regular-season finale to 8-20 Montana State Billings opening the door for teams behind them to bolster their resumes. But a weekend tournament saw some of the Seawolves chief competitors also fall preserving their spot as the seventh seed in the west region. UAA will face number two Western Washington, also of the GNAC.
The top eight make it.
"I honestly didn't know if we'd be seven, eight or nine," said UAA head coach Chris Green, who spent part of his weekend watching and rooting. "If we're nine, we don't make it, so we practiced."
Their opening round match will be November 30 in Riverside, California.
