A brief earthquake struck near Sterling Friday afternoon, and was felt across much of Southcentral Alaska.

The U.S. Geological Survey listed a preliminary magnitude of 4.6 for the 12:16 p.m. temblor, which occurred 12 kilometers north-northeast of Sterling at a depth of 42.8 kilometers.

Initial responses from the USGS’s Did You Feel It? website indicated the quake was felt in Anchorage, Kenai and Seward.
