Morning commute crash briefly closes Parks Highway in Wasilla
A Wasilla-area collision briefly shut down the Parks Highway southbound into Anchorage during Friday morning’s commute, with only minor injuries reported.
Ken Barkley, the Mat-Su Borough’s deputy director of emergency services, said the high-speed rear-end collision was reported at 7:40 a.m. southbound on the Parks near the Locals restaurant, slightly west of the Seward Meridian Parkway.
Although nobody was hospitalized and medics were evaluating occupants at the scene, Barkley said responders ordered the highway closed southbound as they assessed the size of the wreck.
“It’s just because of the scatter of the vehicles,” Barkley said. “They thought it was four, but it was only two.”
Although the Parks reopened shortly after 8 a.m., Barkley said commuters should expect delays in the area Friday.
