A man’s death this week in the southwest Alaska community of Perryville is under investigation by Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers were informed just after midnight Monday of 25-year-old Jared Kaiakokonok’s death, according to an online dispatch.

“Investigation revealed [Kaiakokonok] got into an altercation with a family member,” troopers wrote. “After the altercation Kaiakokonok reportedly began hitting a window causing it to break. Kaiakokonok died as a result of self-sustained injuries after he put his arm through a glass window causing significant blood loss.”

Kaiakokonok was taken to the local clinic in the Alaska Peninsula community of about 110 people, where he was pronounced dead. Troopers said his next of kin have been notified.

His body was sent to King Salmon, en route to an autopsy in Anchorage which will be attended by members of the Alaska Bureau of Investigation.

“Alcohol was a factor in the incident,” troopers wrote.
