Inmate dies in DOC custody
For the seventh time in 2017, an inmate has died while in the custody of the Alaska Department of Corrections.
Inmate Eliu L. Ibarra, 40, died early Monday morning at Alaska Regional Hospital. He was admitted on November 2. DOC spokesperson, Megan Edge, says foul play is not suspected.
Ibarra had been in custody at the Anchorage Correctional Complex since October 25. He had been booked in on charges of possessing or discharging a firearm while intoxicated and criminal mischief.
Edge says Ibarra's death marks the seventh in-custody death of an inmate this year.
