Suspect held on $100,000 bail after one shot, wounded in Sitka
The Sitka Police Department said they have arrested 35-year-old Nathan Leask after searching multiple locations for the shooting suspect who left a man wounded Saturday night in Sitka-- which prompted police to briefly ask that people stay indoors.
Around 5:40 p.m. Saturday, SPD learned that a male had been shot on a commercial fishing boat in Eliason Harbor. When police arrived, they found an uninjured female and a male with a gunshot wound to his thigh and "blunt force trauma to the head."
"During the investigation, it was revealed that Leask had entered the vessel occupied by the victim and female and a physical altercation had broken out," SPD wrote in a press release Sunday. "Leask was reportedly armed with a handgun during the fight and it was discharged, resulting in the gunshot wound. Leask then fled the scene with the firearm"
Officers responded to Blatchley Middle School after receiving a tip that there was a man with a gun inside the pool area of the school. Police searched the school after it was evacuated and could not find the suspect. Police say they determined "that at no time was there a man with a gun in the school."
Leask was eventually found inside a home and was taken into custody without incident around 7:30 p.m.
He was charged with one felony count of assault in the first-degree and assault in the fourth-degree. He is being held on $100,000 bail.
