Following two runner-up finishes at the NCAA Division II West Region Cross Country Championships, UAA's Caroline Kurgat came out on top her senior year.

Kurgat ran the 6-kilometer course at Ash Creek Preserve in Monmouth, Ore. in 20 minutes, 26.1 seconds to set a course record. The two-time All-American and reigning GNAC champion finished almost 40 seconds faster than Cal-Baptist's Anett Somogyi.

Kurgat's win helped UAA's No. 4 women to a second-place team finish, earning an automatic nationals berth.

The No. 16 UAA men finished fifth, missing out on an automatic berth to nationals by two places.
