The death of a man found along the Parks Highway in Houston Thursday morning is being investigated by Alaska State Troopers.

Word of an “unresponsive person” in a ditch near Mile 59 of the highway reached troopers just after 8:45 a.m. Thursday, according to an online dispatch Friday.

“Palmer [troopers] responded and confirmed the man was deceased,” troopers wrote. “The deceased has been identified however next of kin has not been notified. Efforts to notify next of kin are under way.”

Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said nothing further on the man's death would be released until his family was notified.

An autopsy is being conducted by the state medical examiner’s office, troopers said.
