Anchorage police say missing 3-year-old girl Sophia Sakar is safe, and the man who allegedly abducted her is being questioned by investigators.

MJ Thim, a police spokesman, said Sakar and her father, 44-year-old Damon Demond Ward, were found Thursday morning in the same area of Government Hill that Ward’s Honda was discovered overnight Wednesday. An AMBER Alert for Sakar, who police say was illegally taken from a foster home just before 6 p.m. Wednesday by Ward, has been canceled.

Ward hasn’t yet been charged with a crime, Thim said, pending further investigation.

"She's been found in the Government Hill area safe; he's in custody," Thim said. "He is being questioned on why he did what he did."

Ward has a felony warrant for escape.
