This week, the YWCA is honoring women who have helped empower women and eliminate racism in our community at the 28th annual Women of Achievement awards.

Amie Haakenson of the YWCA stopped by to tell us about the event and give us an idea why honoring these women is so important.

"They share with us their leadership, their experience, they mentor others in the community, and it gives each one of us an opportunity to recognize them, but also gives us something to work towards", Said Haakenson.

This year's awardees are:

- Darci Ahlin-Stieren

- Michelle DeWitt

- Wanda Greene

- Amanda Metivier Hernandez

- Betty Huntington

- Nina Kemppel

- Nance Larsen

- Marie Monroe

- Suzi Pearson

- Joanna Phillips-Nutter

The ceremony will take place this coming Wednesday at the Discovery Theater, starting at 7 p.m. Tickets and more information are located at ywcaak.org.
