2 hurt in Eagle River Road fire
Anchorage firefighters say a burning Eagle River home was “fully engulfed” in flames when they arrived at it early Tuesday.
Jodie Hettrick, AFD’s operations chief, said crews were called to the 24000 block of Eagle River Road at 4:56 a.m. Seventeen units responded, with support from the Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department.
“The structure was fully engulfed,” Hettrick said. “It was really too late to do an interior attack, so it’s a defensive fire.”
Crews were still battling the blaze as of 6 a.m., and police said both lanes of Eagle River Road were temporarily closed nearby.
Two occupants of the home were taken to a hospital for evaluation of what Hettrick said appeared to be minor injuries from the fire.
The Red Cross of Alaska was also notified to assist them as displaced residents.
