APD increases patrols around AFN, downtown Anchorage
The Anchorage Police Department is increasing its presence at the annual Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) convention.
APD has had officers doing extra foot patrols around the Dena’ina Center since the Elders and Youth Conference on Monday.
There’s also a temporary sub-station set up at the Visit Anchorage log cabin on 4th and F Streets.
Patrol division Captain Julie Shank said village public safety officers will also help APD officers with their foot patrols.
“It’s nice for us to have that because they work in villages, so they have knowledge of different languages and communication skills to help our officers facilitate any kind of investigation we might do to get help out there quicker,” Shank said.
Shank said the added patrols are an extra effort to keep people safe at one of the largest gatherings in the state.
