Troopers say death in Two Rivers fire was apparent suicide
A body discovered at a residential fire in Two Rivers may have been the result of a suicide, according to Alaska State Troopers.
The fire, on Chena Hot Springs Road, was reported to troopers just after 5 a.m. Friday according to an online dispatch.
“Investigation revealed a possible suicide contemporaneous with the structure fire,” troopers wrote.
Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said that the home wasn’t in a fire service area, so no firefighters responded to the blaze.
“There were notes outside the structure and there was someone who contacted us regarding a welfare check, but at that point it was too late,” Peters said.
Troopers presently believe the death is “suicide-related,” although a death investigation is taking place in case any signs of foul play emerge.
The remains haven’t yet been positively identified, Peters said, but troopers “have contacted the next of kin for the person we believe this was.”
