Anchorage police say a reported exchange of fire early Tuesday between two vehicles, which allegedly occurred in the Airport Heights area, appears to be unfounded.

A call reporting shots fired between two sport-utility vehicles came in from the Northway Mall, near the Carrs Safeway grocery store at the building’s west end, at about 2:10 a.m. according to police spokesman MJ Thim.

No injuries were reported to police, Thim said. One of the vehicles involved, a Ford Aerostar minivan, was found abandoned just west of the mall; police were able to find the driver and two occupants.

"They gave inconsistent reports on why the vehicle was in the ditch," Thim said. "We didn’t find any evidence to indicate a shooting had occurred."
