Haider returns to his usual perch: Behind the mic
If you're an Alaskan hockey fan, you've almost certainly heard Kurt Haider call a game. Now, the veteran announcer is coming home again. He's rejoining UAA as their play-by-play voice after a two-year hiatus, while he was working for the now-defunct Aces.
This season will mark a pair of milestones: his 20th year calling games for the Seawolves and his 700th contest.
"To be honing in on 700 and doing 20 years of UAA hockey, some people may say, 'Yeah you're getting old,' and yeah I guess I am but, it's also a record I'm pretty proud of," he said.
He spent the past two seasons with the Aces as their voice while also working in the communications department.
He'll broadcast the 17 game home slate. Those games will be televised on GCI Channel 907.
The season opener is Friday when the Seawolves host 7th ranked North Dakota. Game time is 7:07 p.m.
GCI is the parent company of KTVA.
