The subject of climate change is a big issue for the state, according to Lt. Governor Byron Mallott. Mallott led a discussion group Tuesday to talk about what role the state should play in addressing climate change.

The brainstorming session included representatives from the oil industry, Native groups and environmental organizations.

"Every Alaskan will be affected, every Alaskan's voice should be heard," said Mallott, adding, "I don't need to emphasize that climate change is real."

Mallott helped facilitate the discussion to gather ideas for Governor Walker's upcoming Climate Initiative. The new climate Policy Document is expected to be released soon, possibly by the end of the month.
