Lawmakers schedule public safety hearings, after report finds increase in crime
After the FBI published a report that shows an uptick in crime statewide -- and that arrests are made in less than 13% of rape cases in Alaska -- the House Finance Committee has scheduled a series of hearings on public safety.
The committee will examine the budgets of Alaska's Dept. of Public Safety, Administration, Corrections and Law.
The goal is to discuss the nexus between crime rates and available public resources in Alaska, according to a press release from the Alaska House Majority Coalition.
The hearings will be held at the Anchorage Legislative Information Office on Oct. 5 from 1 to 5 p.m.
