Alaska State Troopers have now named both victims in a collision near North Pole a few weeks ago.

On Thursday, September 14, around 6:30 in the evening, troopers responded to the mile 353 of the Richardson Highway near North Pole to investigate a two-vehicle collision.

Troopers say a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by 77-year-old Arturo Maceo, of North Pole, crossed the center line and was struck by a 2015 Kia RIO. The collision killed both drivers. Troopers identified the driver of the Kia as 30-year-old MacKenzie Barnum, of Fairbanks.

Troopers have not said what may have contributed to the crash but did say an autopsy has been ordered for both drivers.
